Guys, I need some help. I have a Beretta 92S Italian Police buy-back that DOES NOT have the date code stamp (so please do not start flaming me with the date code conversions - I have all of that).
It has a single line roll mark (as opposed to the more customary 2 line roll mark) on the right side of the slide stating 'P.B. MOD.92S - MADE in ITALY - PATENTED'. The serial number is U10xxxZ. I understand that the U might signify a police contract and that the Z might indicate a pre-1985 manufacture date.
Warranty Information for Firearms Distributed by Beretta USA Corp. Beretta firearms carry a One-Year Limited Warranty to the original purchaser for defects in materials or workmanship. If the original purchaser registers their firearm with Beretta, they automatically receive an additional two years of warranty coverage for a total of three years. Beretta Date Codes Beretta. I wasn't having a lot of luck finding date codes but Google finally gave me something on Facebook of all places. It has no model number on the slide but the box is labeled Model 70 in Italian.
Does anyone have a reference for serial number blocks sold on specific contracts, or any other detail that might narrow down the date this gun was manufactured? And no, it is not listed in Beretta's domestic database.

While the list makes reference to the Beretta Garands, the reference is not correct. The Berettas, which were all manufactured in Italy, are numbered 001 through 200. There were, to the best on my knowledge, only 200 made, 100 each in.308 and.30/06. The.03/06s have the lower serial numbers (001100) and their physical dimensions are not identical to the American-made Garands. The wood is not interchangeable, nor are most of the other parts, other than, possibly, the actions.
Otherwise, great post. I was willing to spend $600 from the CMP to get one.
First let's talk history. It was the rifle that changed the tide of the Second World War.
When ALL countries involved were firing bolt action rifles as their primary infantry weapon, we had 8 rounds of 30-06 heading their way as fast as we could pull the trigger. The fact that the M1 platform was so good, it was being used in combat as late as 1968 by US Marines in Vietnam (M14) says something of accuracy, reliability, and overall design. I know I got mine because of all of these reasons with the main one being it is just so friggin American!
